Sunderland AFC travel to Wycombe Wanderers as they look to keep the pressure on second placed Barnsley ahead of their much-anticipated midweek clash.

Sunderland manager Jack Ross was full of admiration for his Wycombe counterpart Gareth Ainsworth and is expecting another tough challenge in their first competitive visit to Adams Park.

The Black Cats will be in high spirits after confirming their place in the Checkatrade Trophy final and a trip to Wembley with a 2-0 win over Bristol Rovers.

The Chairboys come into the game bottom of the League One form table after losing their last four games including a 4-2 defeat to Peterborough in their previous game.

Team News

Lee Cattermole and Reece James could return for the weekend after missing out against Bristol Rovers with Cattermole suffering from an ongoing ankle problem and James a minor groin injury.

George Honeyman is set to return to training, with Ross hopeful he will be able to feature in the fixture.

The Wearsiders received the boost that Costa Rica international Bryan Oviedo has returned to training, but will miss the upcoming fixture due to a lack of match fitness.

Alim Ozturk is out of the trip to Wycombe with a slight groin problem, which kept him out of the midweek game against Bristol Rovers.

Prediction: Wycombe 1-3 Sunderland

The Black Cats will be massively up for the game after securing their place in a Wembley final earlier in the week and will want to keep their promotion push going strong.

The home side proved they are no pushovers after a 1-1 draw at the Stadium of Light, in a game they probably should have won.

But the back in-form Wearsiders have looked comfortable in recent games and this shouldn’t prove any different with their hosts succumbing to their fifth successive defeat.
