Stockton Town beat Seaton Carew 5-1 on Wednesday night to take their total goals scored tally to 14 – in just two games.

The Teesside team won the league last year, losing just two games all season and scoring 129 goals in 38 games in the process.

Striker Chris Stockton scored a hat-trick, his second of the season, taking his tally to seven wearside-leaguegoals in two games.

Stockton are joint top of the league, ahead of Whitehaven, Ashbrooke Belford House and Easington Colliery on goal difference.

Whitehaven also eased to a mid-week win, beating Harton and Westoe 5-0, while Ashbrooke Belford House beat Horden Colliery Welfare 2-1 at home.

Easington Colliery, though, narrowly beat Silksworth Colliery Welfare, who have been brought back down to earth after their huge 6-2 win at Richmond Town on Saturday.

In their first game of the season, last season’s third-placed team Redcar Athletic beat Jarrow 4-0, with midfielder Michael Woodhouse scoring three.

Elsewhere, Gateshead Leam Rangers battled for a 3-3 draw with Sunderland West End, Hartlepool beat Wolviston 3-1 and Richmond Town got their first points on the board with a 3-0 win at Annfield Plain.
