Seaham R.U.F.C were unable to end Newton Aycliffe’s 100 percent start to the season after being defeated 48-5 by the league leaders in the Northern League on Saturday.

Unbeaten Newton Aycliffe started strong and raced into a 14-0 lead inside 15 minutes with Andrew Littlefair and James Thacker scoring a try each with Luke Tinkler converting both well.

rugby ballAdam Gascoigne and Thacker again were able to break through Seaham’s back line to put Aycliffe 24-0 up at half time and secure a fourth try and a bonus point.

It didn’t get much better for Seaham after the break as Tinkler was able to convert a Luke Crossen try to increase the lead to 31 before Seaham center Graeme Steel reduced the score with a hard fought try mid way through the second half.

Further trys from Littlefair and Thacker’s third put the visitors 41-5 up before a late try from Crossen and conversion by sub Nick Coates finished the scoring at 48-5.

Defeat for Seaham leaves them in 10th position with an away trip to fifth place West Hartlepool T.D.S.O.B next up on Saturday November 7.
