The University of Sunderland’s Men’s Volleyball team won their third consecutive game in all competitions following last night’s entertaining 3-2 victory over Leeds Beckett 1st’s.

The result followed on from two straight-sets victories over Lancaster in the Northern 2B division and Durham in the Northern Conference Cup, and the confidence is now flowing through Sunderland’s squad.

Sunderland’s Volleyball President, Geno Spasov, is happy with his side’s progress but won’t let the team get carried away.

“We’re very satisfied, but we will keep our feet on the ground,” said Spasov, speaking after Sunderland’s win at Green Hall in Leeds.

“We’ve made few mistakes over the last couple of games, which is very positive. Every player of the squad has contributed to the wins.”

Despite Sunderland’s impressive form, it would take a minor miracle for Sunderland to win promotion this season.

They would also be outsiders to go all the way in the Northern Conference Cup, but Spasov insists that is his team’s aim.

“For sure, our goal is to win the cup. Why not? We’re playing well, but we can still improve. We can do better with our interceptions and our consistency throughout matches.

“If we can get even better than how we are playing now, this team can do very well. We all have each other’s backs, being friends outside of the court makes a big difference.”

Sunderland now face a short break until the New Year and will return to action against Sheffield Hallam 2nd’s on January 31.
