Sunderland Ladies have been drawn at home to Aston Villa Ladies in the fifth round of the SSE Women’s FA Cup after a sensational 13-0 victory in the fourth round.

Hat-tricks from Lucy Staniforth and substitute Mollie Lambert, braces from Dominique Bruinenberg and Hayley Sharp as well as goals from Bridget Galloway, Abbey Joyce and Georgia Gibson helped the lasses secure a superb result over Brighouse Town Ladies.

Bruinenberg got Sunderland off to the best possible start at Mariners Park opening the scoring in the sixth minute. Galloway nearly doubled the host’ lead but fired her shot over the bar before Staniforth had a penalty appeal rejected.

It didn’t take long for the second goal to arrive as Galloway rounded the keeper to double Sunderland’s lead. A two goal lead quickly became three with Bruinenberg doubling her tally with a stunning finish into the top corner.

Sunderland’s fourth goal arrived ten minutes before the interval when Sharp opened her account with a tap in from Galloway’s shot across goal.

The second half was even more dominant as Sunderland added nine further goals with Staniforth grabbing her first on 62 minutes, beating two Brighouse defenders before slotting home.

Captain Staniforth added her second with a lovely finish as Sunderland head coach Melanie Copeland rung the changes in the second half.

Sub Lambert grabbed her first of the day within minutes of entering the pitch to make it 7-0  and Joyce soon made it eight with another fine finish.

Lambert scored her second, sweeping home from a low cross before Staniforth completed her hat-trick and took the scoreline into double figures.

Another of the substitutes Gibson scored her first senior goal before Sharp headed in her second of the day. The demolition was completed when Lambert completed her hat-trick late on.

Copeland was full of praise for her team: ““It was a job well done.

“There was a variety of goals, with Louise and Georgia making their first team debuts and first senior hat-tricks for Mollie and Lucy. Brighouse never stopped working and credit to them – we wish them all the best for the future.”

Sunderland Ladies face Aston Villa Ladies on February 18 at Mariners Park.
