Sunderland Netball 2nds were on the receiving end of a drubbing at the hands of local Durham 5ths.

Free-scoring Durham showed why they are second in the league as their quick passing and movement was too much for Sunderland at times.

The first quarter saw Durham put the pressure on early, racing out into the lead scoring 14 points without reply before Sunderland could eventually chip away at a 15-1 lead.

Durham’s quick movement and passing took the edge out of the Sunderland defence which set them up to score some easy points.

Durham continued their attacking dominance into the second quarter, this time scoring 19 points unanswered going into half time.

Sunderland were forced into a change just before the half following a nasty arm injury to a defensive player following a fall.

In the second half, Durham were flying again, scoring another 14 points without reply in the third quarter, all coming within a quick seven minute period.

Another scoring run of 15 points in the fourth quarter meant Durham extended their lead to 65 points with four minutes remaining in the game.

Sunderland could do little to bridge the gap and keep out Durham’s attack despite hitting double figure and the deficit ended up at 67 as the game ended.
