It ended honours even between the Wearsiders as neither side could come away with what would have been a vital three points.

Both sides blew a lead in this one, and it was Jamie Grima who opened the scoring for the home side.

That lead was soon gone as the away side equalised through Brad Foster just before half time.

After the whistle the 2nds went 2-1 up through Matheos Constantinou, but Ray Whitfield’s side got themselves back level soon after as Tom Webster slotted home.

Neither manager made a change to their starting 11 following on from last week. Mo Hmida and Whitfield both knew a win in this fixture would move their side three points clear of the relegation zone in the Northern 6B league.

The opening goal came midway through the first half as Jamie Grima’s low strike from eight yards nestled into the bottom corner to make it 1-0 to the University 3rds.

After missing a couple of big chances, the away side finally managed to get the equaliser as the half-time whistle approached. Brad Foster managed to bundle the ball home after an almighty scramble in the area.

Hmida’s side came flying out the traps in the second half and were rewarded. Constantinou collected the ball from 20 yards and his driven shot found its way into the corner to give the University 2nds a 2-1 advantage.

The home side were on the back-foot for the majority of the second half and were fortunate not to be two down as Constantinou missed a golden chance to grab his second.

However, Webster made the away side pay for their missed chances as his finessed shot from 10 yards out found the bottom corner to make it 2-2 and ensure that both sides shared the points.
