Sunderland West End continued their battle for promotion from the Wearside League with a comfortable 3-1 over Stokesley at Ford Quarry this afternoon.

Stokesley opened the scoring on the day but a brace from Brad Wilson and a late goal for Mark Robinson meant West End ran out clear winners.

Fifth place West End were clear favourites against the league’s second bottom side heading into the game.

Despite that, Stokesley took a shock lead after ten minutes when their forward rounded the keeper and slotted into an empty net.

The lead lasted all of three minutes though as Wilson fired in the first of his two goals with a nice finish on the turn. Wilson got his second on the hour mark amid claims from the visitors that he was offside.

West End had a catalogue of chances in the second half and finally got the daylight they were looking for as midfielder Robinson chested down a ball into the box and coolly prodded it past the keeper.

West End will be happy to continue their good form with two cup finals looming in the coming weeks.
