It was two wins out of three for three of the Sunderland RFC’s minis and juniors teams in their respective leagues at the weekend.

The Sunderland U14s put in a strong team performance against Bishop Auckland which saw them come away with a 41-10 victory. Ashbrooke youngster Archie Norman crashed over for four tries, Oliver Beattie claimed a brace, while Joe Cowie put in a solo effort.

Sunderland’s U16s also claimed a win against West Hartlepool. Again strong running and determined tackling kept Sunderland’s noses in front against a well organised West side. Two tries came from Luke Carroll, with a further touchdown for Louis Deathe. Michael Holder bagged the extras with two conversions for the hosts at Hill View.

Meanwhile, the U13s faced a tough challenge against Ponteland. The visitors shipped six tries in the first half, however the home team turned the game on its head putting in an excellent second half performance. Unlucky winger Liam Carr had a try chalked off after stepping into touch, and was prevented a certain try from what appeared to be a high tackle from Ponteland’s second row. As the game wore on strong carries from Adam Williams and James Marshall saw the ball fed out to Zak Kennedy, who touched down in the corner for the hosts.
