Sunderland and Northumbria discuss the result after a hard fought match last season

Sunderland University Ultimate Frisbee captain James Davison has spoken about how his side are ‘raring to go’ ahead of their 2019 campaign.

The Spinners were due to kick off their season against Newcastle Uni 2nds and Leeds Uni 1sts on 8th December but the matches were called off due to a waterlogged pitch.

These fixtures will now be rearranged in the new year before Sunderland then travel to Durham to face Hull Uni 1sts and Durham 2nds and 3rds at Maiden Castle on 2nd February and Davison has faith in his side after last years disappointing season.

“I’ve definitely been impressed with the new recruits.” James said. “We’ve got a new fresh team but also kept on some key players from last season.

“Got some tall speedy lads in which always helps.

“And everyone’s throwing and catching has come along really quickly compared to last year

“The whole team is raring to go and excited for the season.”

Davison in action last season

Sunderland failed to win a game all season last year including frustrating last minute losses to York St John and Northumbria 2nds after leading earlier in the game.

“Definitely hoping to improve on our winless season, even one win would make all the difference.” captain Davison said. “We got unlucky a few times last year but can’t use that as an excuse.

“I’m just hoping that the new lads really get a taste for the game and really enjoy it in the first tournament.

“Looking to put in 110% and carry out what we’ve done in training as best we can and hopefully get that win that would drive us forward into February.
