Silksworth Colliery Welfare stunned the recently demoted Whitehaven 2-1 to go joint-top of the Wearside League on Wednesday night.

With three wins from four games, Silksworth are now behind Whitehaven only on goal difference – with Stockton Town leading the table with a game in hand.

Easington Colliery, the final member of the current top-four, are similarly on nine points after beating Jarrow 3-2, with Peter Kane scoring two. Sunderland West End, following their dramatic 3-3 draw with Gateshead Leam Rangers last Wednesday, thrashed Ashbrooke Belford House 4-1.

Meanwhile, Michael Woodhouse and Adam Preston both scored two as Redcar Athletic beat Hartlepool FC 4-1, while Seaton Carew beat Richmond Town 4-2.

Elsewhere, Annfield Plain drew 1-1 with Prudhoe Town, Gateshead beat Boldon 2-1, Harton and Westoe lost 2-0 to Cleator Moor Celtic and Wolviston Coxhoe Athletic played out a 1-1 draw.
