Beth Lowrie reacts to BCA Nationals

Beth Lowrie, a seasoned cheerleader for Sunderland Stars, has revealed the physical struggles of cheerleading.

Last weekend Lowrie’s team, Lunar, showcased incredible talent at the BCA Nationals in Telford to earn sixth place in their division. As a main base, Lowrie embodies strength and stability, which is crucial for supporting the flyer.

“Lunar did so well. For many of the girls, it was their very first time on a competition floor and they did so excellently. I am so proud of all of us,” Lowrie said before adding: “It feels like we are all one team and we’re all connected.”

As one of the most experienced in the squad, Lowrie embraces her role as a leader, guiding her teammates and ensuring every stunt is executed with precision. She said: “Mentally, it takes a lot to push through all the anxiety and your doubts and just carry on with your routine even when things go badly. Physically, [cheerleading is] a whole lot of stamina and body strength and I’m always caught off guard by how much it takes it out of me.”

Though they placed sixth, Lowrie chooses to focus on the hurdles she overcame and the positives from the experience.

“I’m most proud of being able to push through my illness and hopefully keeping the girls’ morale up,” she said.

Looking ahead to future competitions, Lowrie said: “I hope to improve on my stamina and timing and hit some good stunts and in particular my cradles.”

Lunar’s next competition is at Revolution’s Rise competition on the 29th of March 2025.
