Last gasp winner sees Hebburn Town extend woeful winless run
Hebburn Town 1-2 Ilkeston Town
Hebburn Town suffered last minute heartbreak as a late penalty saw their winless run extend to 16 matches in all competitions.
Lindon Miekle opened the scoring for the visitors in the 11th minute, but the hosts levelled in the 89th through Olly Martin. However, late drama followed with the away side finding a winner in the 97th minute via a Thomas Marshall penalty.
The game got off to an action-packed start with a penalty in the second minute after Dan Savage was brought down. However, it was not meant to be as Joe Posthills attempt was saved.
The Hornets continued to dominate the game, with most of the shots coming from them but were soon silenced in the 13th minute when a shot from Ilkeston’s Miekle found its way into the back of the net.
Shortly after the visitors doubled their lead but were denied for an offside in the build up.
The match looked to be over until an 89th minute solo attempt from Hebburn’s Martin saw the Hornets equalise and seemingly rescue a point.
Hebburn Town’s hopes of taking anything from the game were short lived, as a last-minute penalty in the 97th minute scored by Marshall saw the visitors steal all three points.
Hebburn have now been waiting since January 1st for a competitive win in any competition.
The Hornets next game will be April 12th 3pm against a struggling 21st place Mickleover FC in the Northern Premier League.
