Mark Henderson delighted with Willington Quay Saints response after “slow start” vs Bedlington

Willington Quay Saints manager Mark Henderson has expressed his delight at his side’s performance after their 3-1 comeback victory at Bedlington.

After falling behind in the third minute, the Saints responded brilliantly, with goals from Ian Fada, Tony Lucas and Robbie Shaw turning the game around.

The result saw Willington Quay return to the top of the Reeves Independent First Division, with Whitley Bay Sporting Club not in action over the weekend.

Henderson’s side have bounced back after being knocked out of the Northumberland Minor Cup last weekend, and the manager couldn’t hide his delight at his side’s display.

After the game, Henderson told SportsByte: “Following a slow start, I thought we controlled the game well. Defending extremely well allowed us to push offensively and create in the final third.

“This pressure and control of the game came good with the equaliser, which relaxed us even more. Midfield worked their way into the game and contributed both in and out of possession.

“All in all, it was a very good squad performance, with everyone getting minutes.

“An important three points considering we have struggled historically away to Bedlington, as well as results elsewhere in our league.

“If we took our chances, we would have made it a lot more comfortable, but we are happy with today’s squad performance.”
