Match Report: Newcastle Benfield 0-1 Guisborough Town

Newcastle Benfield suffered a third defeat in a row in a 1-0 defeat to top of the table Guisborough Town.

A second half goal by Alex Walker sealed all three points for The Priorymen.

Benfield were missing several players for the game including Joe Ames, Matthew Hayton and Joseph Thompson.

After an uneventful opening 22 minutes, the first chance of the game fell Guisborough’s way. Jack Bailey got on the end of a long ball in behind but failed to get solid contact on the ball and saw his effort saved by Oliver Basey.

Moments later another chance fell their way. Another ball in behind caused Jack Watson problems with Kurtis Howes collecting the ball but he blazed his effort over.

Guisborough continued to push forward in the second half and found the lead in the 65th minute. Matthew Willshaw hit the byline and pulled the ball back to Walker who slotted home.

Willshaw could’ve doubled the lead soon after when he got in behind The Lions’ defence but dragged his effort wide.

That miss wouldn’t prove costly though and Guisborough went home with all three points.
