Match Report: Newton Aycliffe 2-6 Hebburn Town: 5 players score in a brilliant away performance
Hebburn Town blew away their opponents in a 6 goal drubbing on the road.
Goals from Freya Peel and Olivia Woodcock gave Hebburn a 2-1 lead at halftime, with Kate Williams scoring for Aycliffe. The home side scored once in the second half off Beth Carwardine. It was no match for the bees 4 though from Mackenzie Gibson, Kate Jackson, Woodcock again, and Hannah-Kate Strasenburgh.
Similarly to their last match against Spennymoor Town Reserves, Hebburn put in an inspired performance in the second half to secure an emphatic victory.
It was the hosts who found the first goal 12 minutes in. Kate Williams dribbled the ball past Hebburn’s defence and beat Caitlin Gunn one-on-one.
Two minutes later, the bees nearly equalised when Sophie Allison received the ball off an interception and drove through Aycliffe’s defence. Her shot was straight at keeper Courtney Wilson however.
Halfway through the first half, Cardarwine nearly scored a second for Aycliffe with a free kick which just flew wide of the goal.
Seven minutes before halftime, Peel received a cross into the box and rounded the keeper with a brilliant first touch before tapping the ball home.
Hebburn then won a penalty three minutes later which Woodcock converted.
Just two minutes into the second half, Mackenzie Gibson took a shot from well outside the box which floated beautifully into the top corner of the net.
At 53 minutes, Jackson got a one-on-one opportunity but was denied by a great save from Wilson.
With 25 minutes to go, Carwardine had a shot from outside the box that beat Gunn to make the score 3-2.
Any hopes of an Aycliffe comeback however were quickly extinguished just two minutes later. Jackson dribbled the ball from the wing, rounded a defender to the middle of the pitch, and shot from just outside the box, lobbing Wilson.
In the 77th minute, Wilson again produced a save one-on-one, this time against Polly Moore.
One minute later, Woodcock got her second goal, and for the third time this half, a Hebburn Town goal from outside the box.
2 minutes before the end of the 90, Charlotte Quiqley dribbled from the wing into the box. She passed the ball into the middle past Wilson, allowing Hannah-Kate Strasenburgh to kick into an empty net for a 6th Hebburn goal.
