Preview: Sunderland Vs Manchester United
The Black Cats will host Manchester United on Saturday 9th May in the Premier League.
The Red Devils qualified for the Champions League after a win against arch-rivals Liverpool, so they will be looking to end the season strongly as they prepare for a European season.
Regis Le Bris’ Sunderland will be hoping to continue their European push, sitting just three points behind Brighton in 8th.
Recent Form –
Sunderland are winless in their last three Premier League games, conceding 10 goals against Aston Villa, Nottingham Forrest and already relegated Wolves.
The home sides last game at the Stadium of Light proved difficult, as the side lost 5-0 to relegation threatened Nottingham Forest.
Micheal Carrick’s men come to Wearside in hot form, winning their last 3 games and qualifying for the Champions league, after spending a year away from nights in Europe.
Previous meetings –
Manchester United emerged victorious in the reverse fixture, beating the Black Cats 2-0 at Old Trafford.
This will be the first time Manchester United have travelled to the Stadium of Light since April 2017, where they won 3-0.
Team news –
The home side lost their appeal to Dan Ballards red card against Wolves, meaning the defender will be suspended for the rest of the season.
Lisandro Martinez is expected to feature for the visitors as his three-game suspension is over.
Benjuiman Sesko is in doubt to play on saturday as he picked up a knock in their game against Liverpool.
Ones to Watch –
Sunderland cult hero, Amad Diallo, returns to the Stadium of Light for the first time since his departure in 2023. Diallo recorded 18 goal contributions for the Black Cats in the championship.
Granit Xhaka recently won Sunderland’s Player of the Year after just one season as captain on Wearside. He is expected to play his 34th game in Red and White.
Manchester United enters this game as favourites, but there will be no surprise if Le Bris’ side win the match, looking at their home record this season.
