Team Sunderland Men’s Volleyball take first double to beat University of York 3-1
Sunderland increased their winning run to three straight games after beating University of York 3-1 in the BUCS League.
Sunderland entered the contest on the back of an impressive win against Leeds and were looking to gain momentum heading into the New Year.
The first set had seen a change from the previous rotation. Abdullah Al-Rishdi played setter, Osama Al Zaid and Atal Qudratallah played opposite hitters, Meng Yu and Sahiru Plainha played middle and Lewis Atkinson Played fourth hitter.
The Wearsiders played well in the new rotation, with Sahiru and Atal scoring the majority of the points from the middle and fourth position, helping Team Sunderland to win the first set 25-23.
In the second set, Sunderland continued scoring points with Osama Al-Zaid scoring 13 points from serve ace to help take the second set 25-20.
Despite Sunderland’s domination, the home side were not going to give up without a fight. Ghanim Al-Mohammed from York managed to take the set for York 25-21.
The visitors ensured victory in the fourth set, however, through a number of ace points. The set ended swiftly to the visitors by a margin of 25 points to 15.
The result ensured Sunderland finished fourth in the table for the first half of the season.
