Dominant Sunderland secure first win
Sunderland Mens Rugby team collected their first win of the season in impressive style as they dismantled Hull 2nd’s to claim a 45-3 win.
In a game that was decimated by poor weather, Sunderland showed their class throughout against a Hull team that refused to down without a fight.
There were tries from captain Dean Edmundson, David Bowman, Reece Thompson, Jared Warby and Michael Holder in a performance that was much improved in all aspects from the opening weeks.
Scrum half Thompson got the scoring started, sniping from the back of a rolling maul to score underneath the sticks for Sunderland’s first points of the season.
Edmundson and Bowman then worked in tandem to set the latter up for the first of his tries, working the ball to the outside edge before he kicked through and dotted down in the corner.
The tries continued to flow in the second half, as Edmundson hit a nice line through midfield from a line out and cantered in for his first of the afternoon. Warby then pounced on a knock on to run in from his own half to open his account for the season.
Bowman then broke through the line to get his second of the afternoon, before Edmundson and Holder scored to complete a successful afternoon for the hosts.
Sunderland will now be looking to build on this win and use it as a springboard for more success this season.
