Whitley Bay 1-1 West Didsbury & Chorlton (1-4p): Whitley crash out of FA Vase on spot kicks
CURTIS Miller scored an injury-time equaliser before West Didsbury & Chorlton saw off Whitley Bay on penalties to advance to round four.
Neither side could really take control of an evenly matched but feisty first half, until Bay struck at the end of the half.
A deep cross found the head of Elliott Day, who cushioned the ball down for Cameron Brewis to tap home past Andrew Jones.
West almost had their equaliser instantly as a miscued clearance set up Benjamin Elliott with just Dan Lister to beat, but his volley crashed off the crossbar.
Whitley had chances to finish off the tie in the second half, but efforts from Harvey Neary and Josh Gilchrist were both off-target.
Lewis Orreal then hit the post for Bay in the 90th minute, and the miss came back to haunt him as West went straight up the other end and equalised through Miller’s deflected effort past Lister.
Jones then made a great save from a corner to send the game to penalty kicks, where Ben Richardson put his penalty over, before Jones saved Day’s spot kick to put the visitors on the verge of victory.
Darren McKnight stepped up and smashed his penalty past Lister to give West the win and see them advance.
