Team Sunderland’s week seven round-up
It has been a rather sparce round of fixtures this week for Team Sunderland, with only five fixtures taking place in cup competitions for our sides on week seven of the 2023/24 campaign.
After all football teams were knocked out of their cup tournaments, none of the teams were in action, with a chance to rest and prepare for a late push before the Christmas break starting next week.
Arguably the result of the week came in Manchester, as the Women’s Netball 1sts bounced back from last week’s first defeat of the campaign, with a 43-38 victory over Manchester Met’s 4ths to make it five wins from their opening six matches.
The only other win for our teams came at CitySpace, as the Men’s Basketball 1sts claimed a morale-boosting 94-70 victory over Durham’s 2nds on Wednesday night, courtesy of an impressive 31-point performance from Mario Tanuous.
Unfortunately, the Women’s Volleyball 1sts couldn’t make it two wins from their last two matches, as they fell to a 3-1 defeat to Hull’s 1sts.
It was also a first defeat of the season for the Women’s Rugby Union’s 1sts, as they couldn’t build upon their 34-7 win over Hull’s 1sts two weeks ago, and convincingly lost 31-0 to Manchester’s 1sts at Ashbrooke Sports Club this time around.
And, again, it was an optimistic performance for the Men’s Fencing 1sts, but their wait for their first win of the campaign goes on, as they dropped to a 135-84 defeat to Durham’s 4ths.
