Team Sunderland’s week 12 round-up

There were nine fixtures in the calendar for Team Sunderland in week 12 of the 2023/24 BUCS season with mixed results.

The only win for the Men’s Football teams came on home turf at Ford Hub on Wednesday night, as the 1sts made it three wins from three courtesy of a 3-0 victory over Leeds’ 3rds.

However, for the 3rds and 4ths, it was defeats, as the 3rds’ four-match winning run came to an end with a narrow 2-1 defeat to Richmond’s 1sts, whilst the 4ths lost comfortably 5-0 to Newcastle’s 3rds.

All three of Team Sunderland’s netball teams were in action both home and away on Wednesday, but there was only one victory between them.

The 1sts bounced back from last week’s defeat away to Newcastle’s 4ths, with a 62-55 point victory over Teesside’s 1sts in Middlesbrough.

Yet, the 2nds couldn’t build upon last week’s victory, as they lost 27-46 to Sheffield Hallam’s 5ths on home turf at CitySpace.

Meanwhile, it was also defeat for the 3rds, losing 23-30 to Huddersfield’s 3rds at home, but the narrow scoreline will have been some comfort for the team.

In Men’s basketball, despite a late flurry of points and impressive displays from AliJunior Ndayitabi and Mario Tanuous, who scored 17 and 14 respectively, it was a 57-63 point defeat for the 1sts against Leeds’ 1sts.

For the Men’s Badminton 1sts, it is three victories on the bounce, as they built upon two consecutive wins against Northumbria’s 1sts with a 6-2 win away to Manchester 3rds.

Also, in the only volleyball match of the week, the Women’s 1sts produced a comfortable 3-0 victory over Bradford’s 1sts in their first match back from the winter break.
