Team Sunderland’s week 13 round-up

There was a mixture of both league and cup action in week 13 of the 2023/24 season for Team Sunderland, with two teams making it through to the semi-finals of their tournaments.

Arguably the biggest result of the week came at CitySpace, as the Netball 1sts made their way into the semi-finals of the Northern Conference Cup where they will meet Newcastle University 4ths owing to a 53-39 point victory over Leeds’ 6ths.

There was also cup joy for the Men’s Rugby 1sts, as they will head to Leeds 4ths in the semi-finals of the Northern Conference Shield, courtesy of a 43-10 win away to Northumbria’s 5ths.

In BUCS league action, the Men’s Football 1sts’ three-game winning run ended away to Teesside’s 1sts, with both teams sharing a point in their 2-2 draw.

Meanwhile, in their first competitive match of 2024, the Men’s 5ths beat Teesside’s 3rds in a fiery affair at Ford Hub, but it was defeat for the Men’s 6ths, who fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat to Northumbria’s 8ths (i2i).

For the Women’s Rugby Union 1sts in their first game back after the winter break, they ended their run of back-to-back defeats, with a 12-5 victory away to Sheffield’s 2nds.

However, in Basketball, the Men’s 1sts couldn’t bounce back from last week’s defeat to Leeds’ 1sts, as they lost 60-75 to Sheffield Hallam’s 1sts.
