NUFC fans reflect on the January transfer window

Following the closure of the January transfer window, Newcastle United fans were asked what they thought of the business – potentially in this window’s case the lack of business done by the club.

Only one player through the door this window for the Magpies in the talented youngster Alfie Harrison from Man City. Newcastle successfully held on to key players like Kieran Trippier and Callum Wilson following strong interest from abroad.

Lifelong supporter Kevin, 67, said “I’m relieved we didn’t let go of the likes of Trippier, unfortunate maybe not to strengthen the starting 11. We have many players coming back who will probably feel like new signings they’ve been out so long!”

The Toon were heavily linked with Manchester City’s Kalvin Phillips on a loan deal, however an agreement was never reached and Phillips made the switch to West Ham.

Young supporter Keiran, 17, felt frustrated with the lack of arrivals, “I don’t understand how we’ve not managed to bring in anyone to plug the clear gaps we currently have. Phillips would’ve been very good for us.”

Last January saw the arrival of Anthony Gordon for £40m who has made a strong case to be Newcastle’s player of the season so far.

With the club juggling between spending big and not breaking FFP rules, it’s difficult to predict how Newcastle will get on in the big summer window, however there is certainly room for optimism.
