Sunderland U21s seal play-off place in Premier League 2
Sunderland’s under 21’s came from behind at Eppleton to defeat Liverpool’s under 21’s 2-1 and secure a play-off place.
Harrison Jones and Timur Tutierov scored each side of half time to turn things around and seal the three points.
Graeme Murty’s side are now sat seventh in the league with one game to go on Sunday, away to Blackburn Rovers.
The top twelve teams will gain a place in next year’s Premier League International Cup. The Black Cats are in a good position to secure a place and a point on Sunday would seal that if other results weren’t to go their way.
Jones spoke after the game about his goal, the three points and securing a play-off place.
The midfielder said: “It was a big three points obviously it’s guaranteed us a play-off position and pretty much guaranteed the international cup for next year which we’re all really excited to play in.”
The game against Blackburn will determine if the lads play home or away in the first play-off game with a top eight finish securing a home fixture.
