Five players who could depart Newcastle this summer
With Newcastle currently having 25 players eligible to make their Premier League squad for next season, the Magpies will need to move some players on to add new additions to the squad.
Newcastle also must raise some funds to comply with the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability rules, but which players could make a move away this summer?
Miguel Almiron
The Paraguayan international joined Newcastle in January 2019 and failed to hit the ground running.
Despite struggling to adapt to the English style of play for his first few years at the Magpies, Almiron has improved a lot since the arrival of Eddie Howe in November 2021, winning Premier League player of the month in October 2022.
However, the 30-year-old year old still leaves a lot to be desired on the attacking front and it would not be a shock if he departed this summer.
Martin Dubravka
The 35-year-old goalkeeper has not been very impressive when he has stepped in for the injured Nick Pope this season.
The Slovakian international has played 149 Premier League matches for Newcastle, but with Pope coming back to full fitness and Newcastle potentially in the market for a new goalkeeper this summer, it may be time for Dubravka to find a new club.
Callum Wilson
Wilson has had a memorable time at the Magpies, recently becoming their second all-time highest Premier League goal scorer behind only Alan Shearer.
The English forward was linked with a move away in January, with clubs from Spain and Italy rumoured to be interested.
Now 32 years old and his injury record becoming worse by the season, Wilson may be moved on this summer.
Kieran Trippier
Trippier was the first signing of the new era at St James’ Park, making the move from Atletico Madrid in January 2022.
Capped 46 times for England, the 33-year-old was also linked with a move away in January, with German giants Bayern Munich enquiring about his services.
At 33, this summer could be the last chance of a big move for Trippier and a way of raising money for Newcastle.
Matt Targett
Targett was excellent on loan for Newcastle for the second half of the 21/22 season, convincing the Magpies to make the move from Aston Villa permanent.
However, two injury riddled seasons have seen the 28-year-old replaced by Dan Burn and Lewis Hall in that left back position, so it may be the right time for Targett to find a new challenge.
