Newcastle United: Top five goals of the season
Newcastle United have scored 103 goals this season across four competitions.
In the Premier League they have amassed 85 goals with the other 18 scored in the domestic cups and the UEFA Champions League.
They ended the season as the fourth highest scorers in the league, with Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool the only ones to find the back of the net more.
From European ‘screamers’ to last minute winners, this is a SportsByte look back on five of the best Newcastle United goals this season.
5. Miguel Almiron Vs Burnley
Despite not hitting the highs of last seasons ‘purple patch’, the Paraguayan’s left footed effort has earned him a place on this list. He picked up the ball on the right side of the pitch just outside the the penalty area after Kieran Trippier won it back. Almiron then curled the ball past James Trafford in the Burnley net and into the top left corner of the goal.
4. Joelinton Vs AC Milan
A night of “what if” for the magpies. Joelinton’s thunderbolt in the first half of their final Champions League tie had supporters dreaming of making the knockout stages of the competition. His right footed effort, from just inside the penalty area, rocketed into the top left corner of the Milan net. Despite the eventual loss, the strike is worthy of a mention.
3. Harvey Barnes Vs West Ham United
Everyone loves a last minute winner but to win the game in how Harvey Barnes did is special. Newcastle were 3-2 down Barnes entered play despite having led the game 1-0. The English winger scored a brace but its second goal that earns him a place on the list. Barnes recieved the ball on the edge of the penalty area and let it roll across his body onto his right foot. He then whipped the ball into the far corner of the goal, past a fully-stretched Lukas Fabianski, to win the game for United.
2. Isak Vs Manchester City
Aleksaner Isak has scored some brilliant goals for Newcastle and it was very difficult to narrow it down. This one, against Manchester City, has earned the Swedish international his place on the list. After he was played in on goal by Bruno Guimaraes, he still had to beat Kyle Walker. He slowed his opponent down with some clever body movement and then shifted the ball quickly to his right. Isak then bended it into the top right of the goal, In front of the Leazes End.
1. Fabian Schar Vs Paris St-Germain
The goal that ended a magical night at St James’ Park and it is one that will stay with supporters for as long as they live. Schar created this goal himself after he pressed high and won the ball back from Gonçalo Ramos. He continued his run and exchanged passes with Jacob Murphy before he rifled the ball into the top corner of the Gallowgate End net.
