Spennymoor Town lose after eight league games unbeaten
Spennymoor Town FC 1-2 King’s Lynn Town
Spennymoor Town were beaten by high-flying King’s Lynn to end their eight game unbeaten run in the league.
Spennymoor’s goal came in the 38th minute from young and exciting winger Junior Mondal. King’s Lynn’s equalised in the 68th minute from Greg Taylor and bagged a winner in the 86th minute from Thomas Harrison Wilson.
Spennymoor came into this fixture without club top scorer Glen Taylor due to injury, however they looked to expand on their recent good run of form relying on ex-Sunderland Academy graduate Will Harris.
Spennymoor started the game brightly with Rob Ramshaw winning a penalty in the 7th minute, however King’s Lynn goalkeeper Paul Jones guessed right to save Harris’ effort to keep the game level.
Moors grabbed the first goal of the game after a menacing counter attack down the left. Harris drove into space and fired a low driven cross which was parried by the keeper straight to the feet of Mondal who fired home from close range.
Despite holding the advantage at the break, Moors encountered serious pressure from the off in the second 45.
After 20 minutes of sustained pressure, the Moor’s defence was finally penetrated in the 68th minute after a scramble in the box which led to Taylor grabbing his first goal of the campaign.
It was late heartbreak for Spennymoor after a powerful header at the back post from Wilson got the visitors ahead before celebrating in style with the travelling fans.
Spennymoor’s next game is an away trip to Needham Market tomorrow afternoon in the league.
