Prudhoe knock seven past a helpless Washington to end winless streak

Washington 0-7 Prudhoe YC

Prudhoe put on a rampant display at Northern Area Playing Fields to cruise past Washington and secure their first league win since November.

Two goals in quick succession from Matt Law and Brad Lowes midway into the first half took the game away from the home side. Collins Unuareokpa then added a third after 34 minutes and Jordan Plunkett made it four on the stroke of half time.

In the second period, Law got himself a hattrick, bagging two in the first 20 of the half, with Unuareokpa making it seven for the YC on 73 minutes.

After being pegged back to a 2-2 draw against Sunderland RCA at Essity Park in their last game, Prudhoe hoped to finally get back to winning ways in the league.

As for Washington, the home side looked to bounce back from four consecutive defeats and a winless period of ten league matches.

The YC began the game in the ascendancy with lots of promising openings in the first 15 and pressure deep in the home team’s half.

In the 23rd minute, Law won the ball from Washington’s left back and raced into the box, before coolly slotting the ball into the bottom right corner.

Just a minute later, the YC doubled the lead as Riley Boertien found Lowes with a crisp through ball, who had his first effort saved until clinically converting on the follow up.

Ten minutes after, Unuareokpa made it three goals to the good for the away side. Law’s flash across the box was initially parried away by Washington’s keeper, but left an open net for the left winger to head home.

At the 45 minute mark, Baty’s inviting corner caused all sorts of problems for the home side’s backline, allowing Plunkett to guide home at the back post.

Just seven minutes after the break, Law grabbed Prudhoe’s fifth. Following an audacious flick by Josh Scott, Law secured his brace with a volley which rattled into the bottom left corner.

In the 64th minute, Law completed his hattrick in ruthless fashion. Following a series of miscued clearances from Washington, the winger rifled home into the bottom corner from inside the box.

Another forceful forward run from Lowes led to a cut back to Unuareokpa, whose deflected effort flew in for seven, capping off a dream night for Prudhoe.

After a five star display at Northern Area Playing Fields, the YC’s attention turns to high-flying Esh Winning away from home on Saturday.
