Newcastle Benfield vs Seaham Red Star match preview

Newcastle Benfield are back at the MKM stadium where they face Seaham Red Star in the Ebac Northern League Division One tomorrow afternoon.

Last time out…

The Lions were beaten by Shildon 1-0 away from home thanks to a goal from Ben Errington. Benfield gave The Railwaymen a run for their money throughout the game, but the home side did enough to claim the three points.

Previous meeting…

The two teams faced off in an absolute cracker of a game for the neutral in mid-October. Benfield came out 4-3 winners in a game of two halves. The Lions were 4-0 up at halftime and cruising, but a quick reaction from Seaham after the break saw the momentum swiftly change. After a late fightback from the Seaham, Benfield did just enough to hold on to the win.

Where the sides sit…

After Saturday’s result, Benfield slipped one place down into sixth with 55 points after 33 games played. Red Star sit in the relegation zone in 21st on 24 points from 31 games. Seaham are coming off the back of a big 1-0 win at home against North Shields which will give them a massive confidence boost heading into this one.

Leo’s pre-match predictions…

“It’s another important game for Benfield as we enter the final stages of the season where every point matters for each team, especially the visitors who will have newfound confidence after their recent result.

“If Seaham didn’t get that win last weekend, I would probably have predicted a comfortable scoreline for The Lions but with Red Star needing a result it won’t be as easy. It will be a scrappy game and the players are going to have to work hard to get the result. With that in mind, I’m going with a 2-1 Newcastle Benfield win.”
