Match Preview: Newcastle Benfield vs West Auckland Town

Newcastle Benfield are back in league action tonight as West Auckland Town visit the MKM Stadium.

Last time out…

Benfield faced Seaham Red Star on Saturday in a game which the Lions controlled the majority. However, Seaham remained resilient and in the 96th minute, Kailem Beattie bagged an extraordinary free kick from distance to salvage a point. That goal will no doubt prove crucial towards their hopes for survival.

West Auckland travelled to Crook. They fell short in a 2-0 defeat in front of a healthy crowd of 300.

Previous meeting…

Noah Millington and former striker, Glen Hargrave got the goals in a 2-2 draw at the Northern Metal Recycling Stadium in an action packed first half.

Where the sides stand…

Benfield sit in sixth place of the EBAC Northern League Division One on 56 points from 34 games played, just outside play-off positions. With just eight games to go, Benfield will want maximum points to give themselves as good of a chance as possible to mix in with the top teams come the end of the season.

West Auckland sit mid-table in 12th, collecting 47 points from 34 games. West Auckland will be eager to push back into the top half after falling out of it earlier in the season.

Player to watch…

James Harrison is my player to watch for tonight’s clash, a forward who can play across the front line. Harrison has bagged 18 goals in the league this season, so he will no doubt prove to be a stern test for Benfield’s back line tonight.
