Jarrow FC win on penalties to secure a place in division two play-off final
Jarrow FC 0-0 CLS United (Jarrow win 4-2 on penalties)
Jarrow FC got past Chester-le-street United in the Ebac Northern football league division two playoff semi final, winning 4-2 on penalties after a stalemate draw.
There wasn’t much to shout about for both teams in the first half of this game, not many chances created and a few bad tackles flying in early on.
In the second half, it was clear that it was going to take something special for the deadlock to be broken, with two great defensive displays on show which kept the match at 0-0.
The best of chances came in the last 10 minutes, more so for Chester-le-Street. The young side missed two easy chances before the final whistle to make it 1-0, one of them being blazed over the bar from a few yards out.
Both sides didn’t leave it to the final day to secure a spot in the playoffs. Jarrow secured a playoff place many weeks ago as they finished third in the league, missing out on top spot by three points.
Whilst Chester-le-street finished fourth in the league, gaining a spot with one game to spare.
With no extra time, the game would head straight to penalties. Jarrow gained a huge advantage after goalkeeper Jak Wells saved Chester-le-street’s first two spot kicks.
Jarrow would go on to score three perfect penalties and it would be Wells again who would be the hero. He slotted the fourth and final penalty into the bottom right hand corner to send Jarrow into the playoff final.
A clash against Yarm and Eaglescliffe tomorrow afternoon lies in wait with the winner earning a spot in Northern League Division One.
