Sunderland’s International stars round-up

The November international break saw 13 Sunderland AFC players called up to represent their nations and some big results followed.

Captain Granit Xhaka once again stepped up for his country as he netted another penalty in Switzerland’s 4-1 win over Sweden. The Swiss international also started against Kosovo in their 1-1 draw.

Youngster Chris Rigg impressed for England’s Under 19’s as he captained his side vs Latvia Under 19’s and grabbed a goal and assist in his 45 minute appearance. Rigg enjoyed similar success vs Scotland Under 19’s as he picked up a goal and assist again in a 4-0 win.

Forward Eliezer Mayenda picked up another two appearances for Spain’s Under 19’s against San Marino U21’s and Romania U21’s where in the latter he managed to get and assist in a 2-0 win.

Noah Sadiki played in both DR Congo fixtures vs Cameroon and Nigeria, with the latter fixture seeing the winner entered into an intercontinental play-off for World Cup qualification, which DR Congo won.

Sadiki’s fell0w countryman Arthur Masuaku, played all 120 minutes in the game against Nigeria and didn’t come off the bench vs Cameroon.

Northern Ireland duo Trai Hume and Dan Ballard were once again called up as they continue to become regulars for their country. Hume played in a 1-0 defeat vs Slovakia, in which Dan Ballard was sent off and ended his international break. Hume was then left out of the game against Luxembourg as he was one game from suspension ahead of the play-offs.

Both Robin Roefs and Lutsharel Geertruida received call-ups for Holland. Roefs didn’t manage to make an appearance, whilst Geertruida started vs Poland in a 1-1 draw and came off the bench for a 26 minute cameo in a 4-0 win vs Lithuania.

Moroccan winger Chemsdine Talbi did not make an appearance for his nation in either game as he continues to get integrated into the squad.

Reinildo Mandava also didn’t make an appearance for his Mozambique as he picked up a knock in training and was left out as a precaution.

Bertrand Traore captained his Burkina Faso side in their 3-2 win over Niger.

Omar Alderete received a red card vs USA in an off-the-field incident.
