Hebburn 1-1 FC United of Manchester: Hebburn’s home winning run ends in top-of-the-table clash
Hebburn remained at the summit of the Northern Premier League Division 1 in a tight 1-1 draw with FC United of Manchester.
Jay Fitzmartin’s goal was levelled up by Liam Murray’s strike to end the game as a draw at the Trustmark Group Stadium.
Daniel Moore’s side went into the game top of the league and unbeaten in their last five, although they have drawn their last two games.
For the majority of the first 25 minutes, both teams struggled to get to grips with the muddy pitch that caused many players to slip and fall over.
And – it took a brilliant strike from Fitzmartin to break the deadlock.
He found space just outside the box, partly due to Kian Foreman stumbling over the treacherous terrain, and his strike caught Sunderland loanee, Dan Cameron, out in goal with his effort looping over his head and into the net.
Murray almost got Hebburn level shortly after with a powerful strike from close range, but it flashed across the goal and just missed Gary Martin at the back post.
Just before half time, Hebburn earned a shock leveller through Murray.
His goal mirrored his attempt earlier on, beating two defenders before playing a nice one-two with Aiden Heywood and smashing it into the net before Dan Atherton could even react.
In the second half, both teams cancelled each other out while struggling with the conditions and there was very minimal chances on goal, until at the death, Murray’s ball found Martin in the box and his unorthodox flick was saved well by Atherton at close range.
Moore’s side play Leek on 21st of February at 3:00 away from home.
