Team Sunderland Dance Club host Showcase for charity

Team Sunderland’s Dance Club hosted their first ever Showcase event in CitySpace on Wednesday.

The event was organised to raise money for Together Forever Trust in memory of Chloe Rutherford and Liam Curry who tragically lost their lives in the Manchester Arena attack in 2017.

Through fundraising the charity gives grants to support young people to follow their dreams in the fields of Sport & Performance, by assisting with costs of auditions, exams, coaching qualifications and travel expenses among other things.

The Showcase raised over £500 and saw Team Sunderland’s Dance Club perform an array of different dances as groups as well as solo performances.

There were also performances from JNK Dance School as a packed bleacher in CitySpace showed their appreciation.

Team Sunderland Dance Coach Chloe Helmersen said: “This was truly a special milestone for our team. People don’t see the hard work and dedication we put in behind the scenes all year, so seeing the incredible support for our dancers meant so much.

Raising money for a meaningful cause made it all the more special for us. Having the capacity to put on events like this is a testament to how much we have grown and I can’t wait to see what’s next for the club.”

Team Sunderland Sport Development Assistant Manager Laura Hockaday echoed Chloe’s sentiments and said: “It was fantastic to see the team host their first showcase in CitySpace. The support the club received was unbelievable and we’re delighted they were able to show what they’re capable of. Hopefully this will be the first of many similar events the Dance club will host.”
