Jonny Clayton picks up third nightly win | Premier League Darts Night 10 – Brighton
The Ferret got back to winning ways after three weeks without picking up a single point and moved back to the top of the Premier League table.
The Welsh #1 beat Luke Humphries, Josh Rock and Michael van Gerwen on his way to reclaiming top spot.
Match 1: Luke Humphries vs Jonny Clayton
Clayton got back to winning ways against Humphries in the opener in Brighton.
The Ferret looked back to his best, taking out four of the first six legs.
However, Cool Hand bounced back and soon took a 5-4 lead.
Clayton sent the game to a last-leg decider and took out the bull to take two points, moving him back to second in the table.
Result: Humphries (96.13) 5-6 (98.37) Clayton
Match 2: Gerwyn Price vs Josh Rock
Rocky overcame Price to claim his third quarter-final win in a row, booking a semi-final clash with Clayton.
Rock took out 164 in leg one, pinning the bullseye to kick off proceedings.
The Iceman won the next two legs including a 116 checkout, before Rock went onto win five of the next six legs taking out double 10 to seal victory.
Price takes on Luke Littler in Rotterdam next week.
Result: Price (96.00) 3-6 (96.49) Rock
Match 3: Luke Littler vs Stephen Bunting
Bunting fired into an early advantage, taking the opening two legs and missing a number of darts to go three up.
The Bullet again let Littler off the hook and missed opportunities to go 4-1 up.
Bunting eventually got over the line – taking out his beloved double 16 for a 6-4 win and another two points to sit level on points with reigning champion Humphries.
The birthday boy overcame the Nuke, who registered his lowest-ever average in a televised PDC event averaging 83.94, for the first time in the Premier League since Rotterdam last year.
Result: Littler (83.94) 4-6 (91.30) Bunting
Match 4: Michael van Gerwen vs Gian van Veen
Van Gerwen booked his place in the semi-finals with a win over fellow Dutchman van Veen.
Van Gerwen reeled off the opening three legs taking out 127 for leg three.
The world #3 took out 100 in leg four for a ton+ finish of his own and in a matter of minutes, the tie was all square again at 3-3.
Van Gerwen won three of the next four legs for the win, pinning tops to see off the Giant.
Result: van Gerwen (95.44) 6-4 (94.49) van Veen
Semi-final 1: Jonny Clayton vs Josh Rock
Clayton marched into a 3-0 lead and despite Rock pinning a 124 in leg seven, the Ferret punished the world #9 who averaged just 25% on the outer ring.
Clayton pinned double 12 to book a spot in his fourth final of the season.
Rock is yet to make a final but has picked up six points in the last three weeks and takes on Bunting next week in the Netherlands.
Result: Clayton (96.31) 6-4 (93.14) Rock
Semi-final 2: Stephen Bunting vs Michael van Gerwen
The Green Machine edged past the Bullet in a last-leg decider.
Van Gerwen popped 100 in leg two, but Bunting took control and went 4-2 up and looked the more likely to be taking on the Ferret in the final.
The world #4 took four of the last five legs to see off Bunting.
Result: Bunting (93.11) 5-6 (90.92) van Gerwen
Final: Jonny Clayton vs Michael van Gerwen
In a fairly entertaining finale, the Ferret started with a bang, popping 140 for a 1-0 lead.
Van Gerwen held, then broke and then held again to go 3-1 up.
The Green Machine then reeled off two of the next three legs to go one leg away from his second nightly win.
However, Clayton had other ideas.
The 51-year-old hit the bull to send the tie to a last-leg decider.
The Ferret pinned double 16 to complete a sensational comeback from 5-2 down.
Result: Clayton (97.39) 6-5 (101.34) van Gerwen
The Ferret sits three points clear of Littler at the top of the table after ten weeks.
The Welsh #1 will face a rematch with the Green Machine in Rotterdam next week.
