Match Report: Horden Community Welfare 2-3 Shildon

Horden CW’s final home game of the season ended with a 3-2 defeat to Shildon in a scrappy affair.

Goals from Shildon’s Andrei-Vasile Ardelean, Billy Greulich-Smith and Leighton Harris were enough to seal the three points for the away side.

Shildon struck first in the 13th minute, when a ball into the box fell to Ardelean, who finished into an open goal.

They doubled their lead 40 minutes in, when Greulich-Smith’s flick from a corner found the far corner.

Minutes later, Horden pulled one back, as a long ball was played in behind to Jason Blackburn, who slotted past Harrison Bond.

In the 53rd minute, Shildon regained their two-goal cushion, when a shot was parried near the edge of the box, and Harris was there to score the rebound.

Horden scored again from a great cross, which David Doughty flicked over the goalkeeper in the 78th minute.

Guisborough Town won their game and have been promoted, meaning Shildon will finish second and must prepare for the play-offs after their final league game at home against Guisborough.

For Horden, their season was effectively over a couple of weeks ago, as promotion and relegation were both off the cards.

Horden’s final game is away from home against 19th position Northallerton Town.
