‘I’ve been struggling…’ – Josh Morton speaks out after Newcastle Benfield’s 1-1 draw against Kendal Town
Newcastle Benfield defender Josh Morton has praised the character of his teammates after they came from a goal down to rescue a point against Kendal Town.
Benfield continued on their unbeaten run, extending it to four matches. Kendal Town took the lead via Steven Yawson, but the play-off hopefuls were pegged back by the Lions who equalised to split the points thanks to a late Aidan Haley goal.
Morton spoke with the media team post-match. He said: “I thought it was a good point, to be honest, probably deserved the point and move on. Seven points in the last week out of nine take it and move on, good point.
“I’ve been struggling with my knee a bit, so I was a bit touch and go whether to play or not but I’ve done a bit before the warm-up and felt fine and then thought the lads at the back done alright, one goal, one error and then I was a bit disappointed I didn’t get my toe on the end of it.”
Morton added: “All the lads are sound, good group of lads, the characters that we’ve got in the squad today showed the fight back to get the point. Everyone’s been welcoming and it’s a well-run club.
“The character we showed to come back if we can build on that, obviously the aim is always to win and keep a clean sheet. If we keep a clean sheet next week and the strikers do their job we should be alright.”
Up next for Andrew Ferguson’s side is an away trip this weekend to Guisborough Town who themselves are also going through somewhat of a transitional period following the departure of their manager.
