Match Preview: Newcastle Benfield vs Easington Colliery

Newcastle Benfield welcome Easington Colliery to the MKM Stadium on Friday night in what will no doubt be a fine footballing spectacle.

Last time out…

The Lions increased their unbeaten run to five at the hands of Whickham in a five-star, four goal display, which saw four different goal scorers. Noah Millington continued his impressive goal scoring form to open the scoring before Joseph Thompson, Layton Campbell and Owen Imeson put the game to bed with neat finishes.

Easington travelled to Tow Law on Saturday, where a six-goal thriller occurred. The Colliers went two goals up thanks to a brace from Liam Wright, however a resilient Tow Law levelled the score. Easington thought they won it, going 3-2 up in the 89th minute, however Jamie O’Brien of Tow Law had other ideas, bagging an equaliser in stoppage time.

Where the sides stand…

Newcastle Benfield sits in 7th place, partaking in an extremely tight play-off run in. five points behind Boro Rangers in 5th with a game in hand, Kendal Town also looking to capitalise.

Easington find themselves 12th, their good form has pushed them up the table in recent weeks, which is a testament to the football they play. Proving tomorrow will be a stern test for the Lions.

Previous meeting…

The Colliers and the Lions met only in January at Welfare Park. Despite Benfield taking a two-goal lead into the break, Easington stuck away four goals in the second half, coming away 4-3 victors.

Player to watch…

Liam Wright is my pick for player to watch this Saturday. Three goals in his last two games, it’s a no-brainer. Wright no doubt has a keen eye for goal, combined with plenty confidence, Benfield will have to be switched on throughout to keep him at bay.
