Match Report: Newcastle Benfield 0-0 Boro Rangers

Newcastle Benfield and Boro Rangers played out an entertaining goalless draw at Sam Smith’s Park on Saturday.

Both sides had opportunities to claim all three points, with the biggest chances coming towards the end of the contest, but neither were able to convert.

The away side started brightly – forcing Benfield ‘keeper Oliver Basey into a decent save early on, as he tipped a cushioned header around the post.

Only minutes later, after some nice interplay, Lewis Orrell was through on goal for Benfield, but fired his shot over.

There wasn’t much else in the way of chances for the remainder of the half, with both sides struggling to create anything of substance.

The Lions started the second half strongly, with efforts from Michael Colquhoun and Joe Ames respectively forcing Oli Swan in the Rangers goal into a couple of smart saves early on.

Yet, the best chances to win the game came as it grew to a close.

Young Benfield player Albie McPate fired agonisingly wide, after Lewis Orrell sent him through on goal, before an amazing reflex save by Basey denied Boro Rangers from snatching all three points.
