Match Report: Newcastle Blue Star vs North Shields

Newcastle Blue Star 0-3 North Shields

North Shields emphatically ended Newcastle Blue Star’s ten-match winning run to win the Brooks Mileson Memorial League Cup at Hillheads Park.

Adam Doyle gave North Shields the lead after 12 minutes, before Nelson Ogbewe doubled the advantage in the 21st minute. Jordan Lashley then settled the tie in the 51st minute.

It was the Robins’ first League Cup final appearance since 2017, following a 2–1 semi-final victory over competition favourites Shildon. Blue Star arrived in good form, aiming to salvage their season after narrowly missing out on the play-offs.

North Shields got off to the perfect start as Doyle slammed home after rounding the goalkeeper following a brilliant breakaway inside the opening 15 minutes.

Blue Star responded quickly and almost equalised, but a fantastic double save from Callum Elliott kept them at bay.

Again, the Robins broke at pace, with Jordan Lashley’s excellent run setting up Ogbewe to slot home and extend North Shields’ lead.

In the second half, Blue Star were forced to come out and impose themselves, but it was more of the same from North Shields.

Lashley, who had been exceptional throughout, put the game to bed minutes into the second half. Doyle provided the assist this time, his brilliant forward play and perfectly weighted pass finding Lashley at the back post to smash home and hand North Shields the League Cup.
