Match preview: Sunderland Women VS Ipswich Town Women

Sunderland Women play Ipswich Town away from home in their last game of the season.

Sunderland meet Ipswich town on Saturday at the JobServe Community Stadium for a 3pm kick-off.

Ipswich Town secured their spot in the second division of the WSL for next season after a 3-0 win against Birmingham City last weekend. They are 6 points clear of the relegation spot, with Portsmouth being relegated with only one match to go.

Whatever the result is for this game, Sunderland will stay in 8th spot as Nottingham Forest are 6 points ahead in 7th, and Ipswich town are 4 points below in 9th.

Sunderland have lost their last two games, with their most recent fixture having been a loss against Crystal Palace last weekend.

When both teams last met in December of last year, Sunderland won 2-1 after a late match comeback, with defender Jessica Brown scoring in the 75th minute, followed shortly by substitute Izzy Atkinson who gave them the win.

While it would be great for them to win against Ipswich, it will make no difference in the Black Cat’s position in the table. This does give manager Melanie Reay the opportunity to use this game to try out new tactics or to rest some players.
