Sunderland Ladies confirm Hebburn move

Sunderland AFC Ladies are set to host several home games throughout the 2019/2020 season at The Energy Check Sports Ground in Hebburn it has been confirmed.

The Lasses, who have already played home games at three different venues this season, have agreed a deal to host five of their home games throughout the 2019/2020 season with a view of more games being added to the schedule.

Although there’s no official statement from Sunderland themselves, Hebburn Town FC’s website confirmed the agreement yesterday, stating that with Hebburn Town having 10 thriving girl’s junior teams, the opportunity to host the Lasses games was a “no brainer”.

The Hornet’s director of football Stephen Rutherford said:

”We work very closely with the professional clubs in our local area on a number of avenues, we have a very good relationship with Sunderland AFC and when the opportunity arose to host the ladies games we jumped at the chance.

This is a fantastic opportunity for the club and the town for us to bring ladies professional football the local area, we have a girls section within the junior club that is growing at a rapid rate and we are a host venue for the Durham FA Wildcats Events (all girl coaching courses) so the addition of professional ladies game playing at the sports ground will bring a great benefit to the club but also raise the profile of the female game across the town.

We are really looking forward to welcoming Melanie Reay and the squad along with the opposing teams to our facilities. The partnership allows our young female members to be part of the match day event also as flag bearers, mascots, ball girls etc. I encourage the local community to pop along on match-days and show your support”

Sunderland Ladies will play their first scheduled game at The Energy Check Sports Ground next weekend, as they faced Loughborough Foxes on Sunday 10th November, kick-off at 2 pm.

Hebburn Town have confirmed entry costs already, with £3 Adult, £1 Concession/Student and a half-price offer for SAFC Season Ticket holders at £1.50 (Season card must be shown).
