Ebac Northern League Division 1

Consett 3-1 Bishop Auckland

Smith 11    Fairley 75

Alshabeeb 42

Carr 56

Consett moved up to second place in the Northern League following a convincing 3-1 victory over Bishop Auckland at the Belle View Stadium.

The result also meant the Steelmen extended their unbeaten run to nine games in all competitions.

Calvin Smith put the hosts in front early on and he was backed up with goals from Ali Alshabeeb and Luke Carr either side of half time.

James Fairley got one back for Bishop Auckland 15 minutes from time but it was too little too late.

Consett started the game brightly and were nearly in front within nine minutes when Jake Orrell fired the ball wide.

Two minutes later they were in front when Alshabeeb squared it to Smith who buried the ball in off the post in the bottom left corner.

Alshabeeb nearly doubled Consett’s lead in the 30th minute but his shot was tipped over by the ‘keeper.

Bishop Auckland ‘keeper Nicholas Liversedge continued to play a blinder, keeping his side in the game with a save from Dale Pearson with his legs five minutes later.

However, the hosts got their reward in the 42nd minute when Alshabeeb placed the ball into the top left corner to send his side two up at the break.

10 minutes into the second half Consett extended their lead when Pearson’s volley was saved and Carr put away the rebound.

Bishop got a consolation in the 75th minute when Fairley drilled the ball into the bottom left corner.

It wasn’t to be for Bishop Auckland, who picked up their fourth loss in their last five games in all competitions.
