Lang Jacks look to stretch their unbeaten run to ten as Benfield visit the Glebe next
Whickham return to the First Mortgage Glebe on Tuesday evening in their penultimate home match of the season as they welcome Newcastle Benfield.
The home team’s last fixture was a 1-0 victory away to Penrith last Wednesday.
Ross Peareth’s goal 10 minutes from time sent the Lang Jacks home with all three points and stretched Whickham’s unbeaten run to nine league matches.
The Lang Jacks also managed to keep their seventh clean sheet in 16 league matches under Tony Fawcett.
The visitors come into the match in good form themselves following a 1-0 home victory against third-place Thornaby on Saturday.
Benfield have kept it tight at the back of late having only conceded 6 goals in their last 6 league matches, collecting two clean sheets in the process.
However, the visitors have leaked as many goals (62) as they’ve scored this season. Only eight other teams in Division One have shipped more goals than Benfield.
Whickham will welcome back striker Jack Robson and defender Jamie Dunn after they both missed the win against Penrith. While forward Scott Jasper is unavailable for the fixture.
Whickham will need to keep a close eye on strikers Ryan McGorrigan and Paul Brayson. McGorrigan currently sits on 17 goals for the season, while Brayson has found the net 15 times to date.
The visitors claimed a 2-1 victory the last time these two teams faced each other, thanks to goals from Connor Walker and Paul Brayson. Zak Atkinson pulling one back for Whickham.
The home team sit two places but only one point above the visitors with both teams having an eye on a top-four finish.
A tight end-to-end game is expected at the First Mortgage Glebe with both teams possessing attacking talent that have ability to produce moments of brilliance.
