Killingworth FC clinch the Northern Alliance Premiership title in a 5-2 win against Alnwick Town FC
Killingworth going into this game only needed 3 points to seal the title after failing to do so last week against Gateshead Rutherford losing 3-2.
15th minute a cagey affair early in the first half with Alnwick trying their best to spoil the visitors’ potential celebrations and almost took an early lead through Hayes who fired his effort high and wide.
The first half ends 0-0 neither side was able to break the deadlock, Alnwick set their team up very compactly, not allowing Killingworth’s main attacking threat Michael Baxter a chance to get turned.
50th minute shortly after the break Killingworth score after miscommunication between the Alnwick keeper and defenders from Lewis Burns cross and the ball drops to Connor Shaw for the tap in 1-0 Killingworth.
65th minute Alnwick continued to play their game which involved playing out from the back and both Killingworth strikers Shaw and Baxter hounded them relentlessly and forced the Alnwick players into a mistake and Baxter turns his man slots the ball calmly past the keeper 2-0.
70th minute Killingworth looking for more with Jordan Laidler winning the ball in midfield passing it forward to Shaw who strikes from distance and the Alnwick keeper makes a meal of the effort and the ball ends up in the back of the net 3-0.
Shortly after this 72nd minute Alnwick get one back, Hayes rifles one from distance 3-1.
Back at the other end 74th minute Killingworth add a 4th through Baxter who latched on to a brilliant pass from Dan Souter 4-1.
80th minute Baxter proving to be a nightmare for the Alnwick defence as he twists and turns his man twice before lashing a left footed effort into the top corner completing his hattrick 5-1.
89th Minute Alnwick score a late consolation goal from a corner from the head of Hayes.
As the full time whistle blows Killingworth staff run on the pitch to join the players in celebrating what has been a remarkable season leading the league from start to finish they are the 2021-22 Northern Alliance Premiership Champions.
