Gateshead 2-1 Oldham: Match Report
A late goal by Marcus Dinanga secured Gateshead three points with the Tynesiders now one point away from escaping the relegation zone.
Former Gateshead captain Liam Hogan turned the ball into his own net to give the home side an early lead before Will Sutton’s strike from outside the box in the 62nd minute brought the scoreline back level.
Marcus Dinanga got his first goal for his new club after his five yard effort reinstated Gateshead’s lead in the 80th minute.
Mike Williamson was left unable to select Aaron Martin, after the striker received a red card in Gateshead’s previous fixture against Southend, while Callum Whelan was introduced to the starting 11 to make his Gateshead debut.
Greg Olley showed his brilliance when his backheel pass played in Adam Campbell whose eventual shot was saved by Maenus Norman in the seventh minute.
Gateshead broke the deadlock one minute later. Campbell drilled a low-driven cross into the box which Hogan stuck a foot onto and poked the ball into his own net.
The visitors pulled one back after the break. A loose ball on the edge of the box was drilled in by Sutton in the 54th minute.
Alex Reid should have given Oldham the lead in the 62nd minute. The attacker rounded Filip Marschall before his shot hit the side of the net.
A long throw-in was sent into the box which Louis Storey manged to flick the ball to find Dinanga for an easy finish in the 80th minute.
