Cameron Scarratt Trophy – Team Sunderland make it three in a row

In spectacular fashion Team Sunderland Mens triumphed in the Cameron Scarratt trophy against Northumbria Police delivering the third trophy in 4 years.

Sunderland Men 4-0 Northumbria Police

Team Sunderland Mens Football rounded off the night in victorious fashion defeating Northumbria Police ny four goals to nil. 

Four stunning goals were scored on Monday evening by three fantastic players: Sam Irwin, Zouhair Arhal and two were tucked away by James Alpine. 

This fantastic result further progresses University of Sunderland’s season to an amazing start as well as raising huge awareness for charity.

Sunderlands Club Committee commented “a very good start to the season for the charity element of our club”.   

James Clark shortly after in an interview stated there were ”some great individual performances throughout the 90 minutes highlighting the strength of the university programme”.

Sunderland Women 2-5 Northumbria Police

The women’s game too did not disappoint as the game was an end-to-end classic from start to finish.

A seven goal thriller kickstarted the wonderful evening of football ahead as the sun set on a chilly ford quarry.

With just over 60 seconds gone on the clock the visitors knew a tough game would be on their hands as Laura Baldasera delivered a strike just rising above the bar.

Great link up play was shown before a right footed curling shot was struck by a Police winger just outside the box opening the scoring with 19 minutes played. 

Shortly after the opener a deflected cross swooped across the face of goal, allowing Megan Wheeler to calmly slot the ball home equalising the scoring, Police goalkeeper rushed to meet Megan however leaving the forward a gap allowing her capitalise on the space. 

24 minutes had passed when a goal kick routine went wrong as Laura Baldasera intercepted allowing space to be exploited at the back, the ball then was neatly finished by Jessica Ellison capitalising on horror defending. 

Hannah Gosnold hit a left footed strike to the keepers near post, catching her out just as the half hour mark passed, Team police now cruising into the half time break.

More magnificent performances were displayed in the second half with 2 goals coming from The Police scored as well as scored a consolation for Team Sunderland

All in all a great charity event was rounded off by two wonderful performances displayed by both Sunderland Men and Women as well as Northumbria Men and Women Police.
