Match report: Whitley Warriors 4 – 7 Solihull Barons

Whitley Warriors fell short against the Solihull Barons as they lost by three goals on Sunday night.

The Barons created a big lead quickly, with goals from Niklas Ottosson and Charlie Webb, before a powerplay goal from Philip Mulcahy saw them 3-0 up at the first interval.

The second period saw goals from Harry Harley and Garry Simpson bring the game to one goal difference, before Ottosson and Simpson got their respective seconds.

Bailey Challans scored for the Barons, before Mulcahy got his second. Simpson completed his hat-trick for the Warriors just minutes after, but Alex Whyte put the game out of reach for the Warriors.

The Warriors had a 5-1 away win to the Widnes Wild the day before, whilst the Barons were only five points ahead in the table.

Solihull Barons scored first, two minutes into the game, as Ottosson was able to force a turnover on a Warriors attack, and scored on the break.

10 minutes into the first period, the Barons would get their second from Webb, and just three minutes later would find a third from Mulcahy.

The Warriors only needed four minutes in the second to bring the game back within reach, two goals from Harley and Simpson bringing it to a one-goal game.

Ottosson got his second of the night, as he extended the Barons’ lead again in the 9th minute of the second period.

With just 19 seconds remaining, Simpson scored his second to bring the game back to one-goal.

The Barons’ one goal lead became three, as Challans and Mulcahy scored in the first 10 minutes of the third, but Simpson got his hat-trick to keep Whitley in the game just two minutes after.

Ultimately, it wouldn’t be enough, as, with a minute to go, Whyte slotted home the Barons’ 7th goal to secure the win away in Whitley.
