Hat-trick hero Cai Prichard reflects on “ruthless” second half performance

In a game of two halves, striker Cai Pritchard’s second half hat-trick inspired a second-half surge as South Shields IA beat Brooke House Coventry City.

A cold, wet and windy day in Sunderland was matched by an uninspired first half of football. Both teams lacked the killer edge needed to take the lead.

One minute into the second half, Daniel Rovira broke the deadlock for the Mariners.

Striker Cai Prichard put the game out of reach for Coventry with goals in the 60th, 84th, and 87th minute.

“We should have been 2-0 up at half time, in the second half we were a lot more ruthless and that was the difference today.” Said Prichard.

“I’m Happy that we finally killed a game off, there been games where we’ve taken our foot off the gas, so it felt good today to have a full confident 90 minutes”

Prichard has scored at least goal in four consecutive games, his total for the season is an impressive six goals in five games.

“That comes from how well the teams performing, the build-up play from the midfield, and well we keep possession. I should be scoring this many realistically.”

The 2022/23 NFYL U23 League Cup final was played at the Hawthorns, home of West Bromwich Albion, a great incentive for teams to do well in the competition.

“We take it game by game. Its definitely important because everyone here is trying to showcase their ability, and a good cup run will help us play on big stages with a lot of eyes.
